Details of Prince William's East Lancashire visit revealed

VISIT: The royal couple VISIT: The royal couple

PRINCE William and Kate Middleton’s last royal engagement before their wedding will take be in Blackburn and Darwen.

The full itinerary of the visit was announced yesterday.

As the climax to a series of tours in the weeks leading up to their marriage on April 29, the couple will officially open the Darwen Aldridge Community Academy.

They will then go on to view recreational activities taking place in Witton Country Park, Blackburn, on Monday, April 11.

Prince William is visiting the park as Blackburn with Darwen Council has become the first borough in the country to sign up to the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge which aims to protect 2,012 outdoor recreational spaces.

The Prince will add his signature to the Deed of Dedication to protect Witton Country Park.

He is also using the visit to launch the SkillForce Prince’s Award, which aims to recognise the contribution that young people make.

The royal will also be given a tour of the academy.

Students, parents, governors, staff and local dignitaries, will gather to see Prince William unveil a commemorative plaque, and Miss Middleton will present a creative writing award.

At Witton Park, the Prince and Miss Middleton will meet participants and trainers in a football skills training programme and see youngsters taking part in disabled cycling activities.

Miss Middleton will be invited to start a 100-metre race and meet athletes and trainers.

It comes just two weeks before their wedding in Westminster Abbey on April 29.

All da crims will keep away from east lancs on that day. If anybody looks remotely like they could pose a risk they will be at least looked at in a menacing way. Scrap metal hobbyists will have to be on their guard.

How much is this event cost to police?

Less than the EDL protest, I'm sure, but nobody voted for the Royals either.

I've got nothing against the visit, but why is the offical school opening being carried out during the Easter school holiday rather than term time?

Who are these people? Southern parasites! If there is no money for important services how can anyone be remotely interested in what they do or where they go? Royalty has no place in a modern society. I did not vote for these people and therefore as far as I am concerned they can stay in London.

To say "I didn't vote for them" is just stupid. All my life I've lived under governments that I haven't voted for, and that is true for the majority of people in this country.
You sound like you've been brainwashed into thinking Voting = Good. (aka 'democracy')
I'd much rather have unelected people leading the country who were wise and prudent and benevolent rather than clowns who were voted into power.

For all their faults, the Royal Family are what have held this country together for the last 1000 years. They're bound by duty to the country, not themselves or even the people. When all the self-serving, clueless, corrupt politicians have left the building, the Royal Family will be the ones left to turn the lights out -and they'll NEVER turn the lights out.
