Nowt. Zilch. Zip. Nil. A BIG FAT ZERO.

That's how much I've raised for East Lancashire Hospice so far.

My Just Giving page is as popular as Gordon Brown on a Rochdale housing estate.

I'm sure for most of the runners lining up for July's race, the day will be about reaching personal goals. Whether it's finishing the 10K in under 40 minutes, under an hour ... or just finishing it at all, it's that sense of achievement that drives us all on.

But the day is also about helping our charities - and several fantastic causes will benefit.

Runners have not only been pounding the streets, but hammering their keyboards as they plead with friends, family and work colleagues to part with a couple of quid.

So now it's my turn.

Just for this week, I'm going to turn into Bob Geldof.

As reader(s) of this blog know by now, I hate running. Two months in, I still detest it. My only personal goal is to finish the race in one piece.

I'm doing this run to raise money for East Lancashire Hospice.

Over the past two years, I've seen at first hand how incredibly hard the staff and volunteers work. But they can only achieve their aims with the help of the public.

The hospice needs to raise more than £2 million a year to offer the services so important to the people of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.

That's a staggering amount, and it would be easy to think that a £5 donation wouldn't make any difference in the face of such a huge target.

But it does. It makes a huge difference. It could help somebody you know.

So that's my Bob Geldof monologue over. I'm not going to repeat his eloquent "Just give us your f****** money..." plea but I could do with a few bob, if you pardon the pun.

My Just Giving site is up and running, and it's so easy to donate. Just click on the link below, type in how much you want to donate, and enter you details provided. It's that easy and the site is completely secure.

Back to the running: I've downloaded a brand new app for my iphone this week. It not only tells me how far I've run, the time it took me and the amount of calories I've burned, but it also shows me a full map of the route I've taken.

My run downloads automatically into a website, which logs every jog and all its data.

Sounds great, but there's no cheating or short-cuts with this app. I can't do a two-mile run and claim three-and-a-half.

It looks like I'll have to do some proper running from now on ... or strap the phone to my car gear stick.

Breaking news: I've had my first £10 donated, thanks to Neil Docking in the office.

He bet me Liverpool would win their final five league games. I won the wager after game one.

So Neil has kindly donated the cash to my Just Giving site. Thanks Neil. Thanks Rafa.

If you can spare a couple of pounds and add to Neil's donation, please go to my page on www.justgiving.com/paul-plunkett
