Lung Cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in the UK and the biggest killer, claiming the lives of over 35,000 people every year, more than breast, prostate, bladder cancer and leukaemia put together!

Thanks to a donation of £27,444 from the Furness Building Society, new endobronchial ultrasound technology is now on loan to the regions specialist cancer centre allowing for the first time high quality internal images to be taken. Dr Munavvar Consultant Chest Physician and one of the country’s leading experts says, ‘higher quality internal images will assist us in predicting malignancy more accurately. It will particularly help patients who may have lesions which are potentially curable but notoriously difficult to diagnose in a safe and minimally invasive fashion’.

This equipment, the first of its kind in the UK, is a real win for the people of Lancashire and South Cumbria and a landmark step in our fight against this terrible disease, but in order to keep this vital equipment here at Preston, Rosemere Cancer Foundation are appealing to the regions businesses to help raise the final £30,000 by March 2015.
