A FATHER-of-10 has appeared in court over an altercation with his long-term partner Dawn Hughes.

Stewart Murgatroyd, 41, must now behave until magistrates hear an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) in mid-October.

Murgatroyd, of Wickworth Street, Nelson, was detained following a bust-up with Hughes outside Burnley Magistrates' Court on Monday.

He was intially arrested on suspicion of assault but later charged with using threatening words and behaviour by Lancashire Police.

Later Murgatroyd appeared again before Burnley magistrates and admitted the public order offence. He was detained within the courthouse for a day in lieu of a £50 fine and £15 victim surcharge.

Another offence of breaching an interim ASBO was withdrawn by prosecutors and magistrates also decided not to take any action on a conditional discharged he was subject to for an October 2011 criminal damage matter.

Proposals for ASBOs against two of Murgtroyd’s daughters - Chloe and Demi - were dropped earlier this week because council and police officials were satisfied that their behaviour had improved, after being placed on interim orders.

But their twin brothers Reece and Dillon Murgatroyd are both still subject to full ASBOs to curb their tearaway behaviour.

Council and police chiefs had pledged to work to address the family’s problems after they were booted out of their home in Padiham two ago, following a string of complaints from fed-up neighbours about loud parties and rowdy conduct.
