A FATHER and son have been sentenced for downloading vile child porn.

David Shaw, 59, and his son Robert, 25, stashed hundreds of sickening images at the house they shared in Burnley.

Police found the extreme porn on computers, discs and DVDs they seized from their house in Cobden Street.

Burnley Crown Court heard David Shaw, who slept and ate in the lounge as he was disabled, stored hundreds of images, including an 18 month old baby being sexually abused, on his computer.

His son was a recluse and rarely stepped out of his bedroom where he also had a computer.

David Shaw had admitted two charges of possessing extreme pornography, five of making an indecent photo of a child and four of possessing an indecent photo of a child.

He was jailed for 26 weeks, put on the sex offenders' register for seven years, given a sexual offences prevention order and was banned from working with children indefinitely.

Robert Shaw had pleaded guilty to seven allegations of making an indecent photo of a child.

He received a two-year community order with supervision and must attend the internet sex offenders' treatment programme.

He was put on the sex offenders' register for five years and was banned from working with children.

Neither defendant had any previous convictions.

Stephen Parker, prosecuting, said David Shaw's computer was in use when officers arrived at the house in April last year.

It was seized, examined by the police's high-tech crime unit and a number of images were found.

Police also recovered about a dozen DVDs or CD roms from the room. They were also sent off for analysis.

Seven of the discs were found to contain either indecent images of children or extreme pornography.

Some of the child images were at level four, almost the most serious level, and featured children as young as two or three being abused.

Mr Parker said Robert Shaw was in his bedroom using his computer. It was examined, no indecent images were found on it, but there were some on one of the hard drives on the floor.

Seven images were at level four. Most of them, about 250, were at level one.

The defendants were arrested and both exercised their right to silence.

Afzal Anwar, defending David Shaw, said the defendant was disgusted with himself and understood his criminal behaviour had been despicable.

Maurice Greene, defending Robert Shaw, said he essentially lived in his bedroom and spent his time on his computer.

Sentencing, Judge Lloyd told the father and son the images she had to view were 'bluntly revolting'.

She said: “The simple fact of the matter is that the sexual exploitation of children and adults in this extreme pornography is rife.

“The courts have to do what they can to prevent such exploitation and the courts have to do what they can to deter people like you from viewing, from downloading, from storing such images and perpetrating the misery.”
