A KIND-HEARTED Burnley boy donated the money he was left by the tooth fairy to children less fortunate than himself.

Instead of spending his cash on sweets and chocolate, seven-year-old Scott Lewis, of Whittlefield Primary School, handed over his £4 to Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley.

The youngster, who now sports a cheeky front-toothless smile, discovered the hospice after visiting activity sport sessions at Burnley College.

Scott’s mum, Kelly Hughes, said she was really proud of what her son had done.

She said: “He came home one day after taking part at one of the activity sessions and said he wanted to donate his money to the hospice.

“I couldn’t believe it, it’s not something a child would normally want to spend his pocket money on but it was very thoughtful of him.”

The charity provides care and care for children with life-limiting illnesses from across East Lancashire. As well as one day visits, the hospice has several flats to enable parents, carers and siblings to stay with youngsters who are living there.

Jo Moss, community fundraiser at the hospice, said: “Many thanks to Scott for being so thoughtful.

“It’s great to see honest, caring children thinking about others who are poorly and in a worse situation than themselves. Every donation helps us to reach our annual target of £3.75m to help support more than 300 families who have a child with a life-threatening illness and a further 200 who are receiving bereavement support.”
