SWANS, peacocks, parrots, bees and wild flowers are all to be discovered at Towneley Hall in the Sublime Symmetry exhibition by renowned artist William de Morgan.

The collection will open at Towneley Hall in Burnley on Saturday, March 5 and run through until June 5.

Normally housed at The De Morgan Museum in Guildford, the exhibition showcases the work of William De Morgan, the celebrated Victorian arts and crafts designer.

MORE TOP STORIES:

There will be more than 80 magnificent works on display, including ceramics from the De Morgan Collection, and his designs on paper on loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The pieces have all been chosen to demonstrate the mathematical concepts which are the basis for the artist’s beautiful and colourful ceramic designs.

Children and whole families will be able to explore the patterns, shapes and symmetry in De Morgan’s elaborately decorated tiles and pots.

The exhibition is also supported by an exciting schools programme and teacher information pack aimed at Key Stage 2.

Councillor Bea Foster, Burnley Council’s executive member for leisure and culture, said: “We are delighted to be one of five towns and cities across the country hosting such a remarkable exhibition.

“It is a great addition to Towneley’s 2016 programme and we hope that the exhibition will attract a lot of visitors both local and from further afield, as it really will be an interesting experience for all the family, young and old.”
