KIND-HEARTED students at Colne Primet Academy have planted trees and created plaques in memory of two of their friends.

A memorial area has been officially opened at the school’s Dent Street entrance by year 11s, who wanted to pay tribute to Fim Chaiwiset and Jerry Gray, who died when they were in lower school.

The event included readings by students, some of Fim and Jerry’s favourite music, and a visit from Jerry’s mum and partner Annie Gray and Michelle Austin.

Jerry, who lived in Colne, died in April 2012 aged 13 after a battle with rhabdomyosarcoma – a form of cancer.

Fim, 14, who lived in Burnley, died in January 2013 after a short illness.

Head girl Abigail Sparshott, 16, said: “Our year has lost two very amazing and caring members.

“Jerry and Fim were both one in a million people and I’m happy that their memory will live on at school and with everyone who knew them.”

Head boy Joshua Richards, 16, said: “Since we are coming up to exams and leaving school we thought it would be nice to remember Jerry and Fim and do something so that they will never be forgotten.

“It has been an honour for us to be able to honour their memories.”

Jerry’s mum Annie, 42, of Keighley Avenue, Colne, said: “I have always been told I must be proud of Jerry, and there is no doubt in that, but today I am proud of his good friends and the people in his life.

Year 11 student Josh Connor, who co-ordinated the memorial opening, said: “I think it is good the school has given us this opportunity.”

Also in attendance were Lynn West, who was Fim and Jerry’s head of year, and head teacher Lynne Blomley, who praised students for their dedication and commitment in getting the memorial set up.

Mrs West said: “I am really proud of the students – it was a difficult task for them to write and read their memories but they have done really well.
