A DERELICT mill where a firefighter was badly hurt a few years ago has again been targeted by arsonists.

Rubbish inside Albert Mill, Whitworth, was set alight twice on Saturday, putting Bacup fire crews at risk.

Watch manager Damian Hartley said: “We are urging the public to keep out of Albert Mill as it is in a very poor state of repair, and poses risks to anyone who enters, including the emergency services.

“The mill was the scene of a serious accident a few years ago when a firefighter fell through a hole in the floor while searching for a deliberately set rubbish fire. This could easily happen to anyone who enters the building. The firefighter made a full recover, but somebody else may not be as lucky.

“Think twice before deliberately setting a fire and keep out of dangerous derelict buildings.”

The fires happened at 6.40pm and 8.45pm.
