A LEADING Tory councillor in Pendle has hit back at Lib Dems’ criticism of a new ‘Brand Pendle’ scheme.
The Lib Dems said the scheme, which would see new signs and branding for the borough, was a waste of money.
But Conservative councillor Paul White, executive member for economic development, enterprise and growth, said: “They just don’t get it one bit. They have called this initiative, which has a budget of zero but will see growth in Pendle, an outrageous waste of money.
“They say they don’t support the concept. Who in their right mind does not support the concept of increasing jobs, attracting business, promoting our area to the whole of the north of England?”
Council leader Joe Cooney said: “It’s about us creating an initiative that says to people outside of Pendle that we have so much to offer. It’s a great place to start and grow a business.”
