Pendle students turn up the heat for big bake off
2:27pm Friday 8th February 2013 in News
JUNIOR culinary experts have been inspired to come up with their own creations for the ‘Great Pendle Bake Off’.
Students at Pendle Vale College were asked by teaching assistant Kath Parker to mirror the skills displayed by contestants on the popular BBC series, hosted by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.
And after enlisting the support of local master bakers, Oddies and Farmhouse Biscuits, the youngsters rose to the challenge.
A Pendle Vale spokesman said: “The students were extremely enthusiastic and had to complete a design sheet for a selection of cupcakes to their own flavourings and design.”
The final ‘bake off’ took place under the watchful eyes of Bill Oddie and Andy Howes, from Oddies, and the judges gave marks for appearance, texture and taste. The winning cupcakes were made by Anam Batool, while Chloe Whitehead was runner-up. Each received prize hampers including bakeware and specialist ingredients donated by local supermarkets.
