A RAWTENSTALL primary school has jumped from being ranked as ‘satisfactory’ to ‘good’, according to government inspectors.

Ofsted, the education regulators, said pupils’ achievements at St Paul’s Constable Lee CE Primary School, in Hollin Lane, had improved.

Officials toured the school in November and concluded that its 267 pupils, aged four to 11, were ‘polite and welcoming’.

In her report, lead inspector Christine Potter said: “An exciting range of activities and a focus on developing language skills help children get off to a good start in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

“Most teaching is good and some is outstanding. Teachers plan carefully to meet the needs of different pupils. Pupils behave well and are clear about what is expected of them.

“The headteacher provides strong leadership. She has developed an enthusiastic staff team, who share her ambition for the school.”
