Earby mum has close shave for Ethan
A MUM and her friends have shaved their heads to raise money for a cancer charity after her son was diagnosed with the disease.
Eight year old Ethan Wilson, of Colne Road, Earby, was diagnosed in October with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a fast-growing cancer of the blood, after the glands in his neck enlarged and his foot had swollen.
His mum Lisa Wilson along with friends Jane Dury and Danny Hall raised more than £1,900 by having their heads shaved for children’s cancer charity, Candlelighters at Earby Cricket Club.
The charity raises money to support work and research at the Leeds General Infirmary where Ethan is being treated.
Lisa, whose hair before the shave was shoulder length, said: “I was astonished by the amount of support from the community, the event was a tremendous success.
“I want to thank everyone who helped in any way, it was a marvellous effort by all the community.
Ethan, who attends Spring-field Primary School is now on his second stage of treatment which involves having weekly lumbar punctures, antibiotics and oral chemotherapy.
He faces a programme of treatment which could last three years.
Ethan was diagnosed with the illness after the family spotted that his glands in his neck had been swollen for a few months.
