RENOWNED folk singer Kate Rusby has given permission for her music to be used on a CD in memory of murdered Burnley aid worker Michael Blakey.

Michael's dad Paul wrote to the artist, who was one of his son's favourite singers, to see if he could use her music.

And Kate, whose albums include 'Underneath the Stars' and 'The Girl who couldn't Fly', said: "I am quite happy for the music to be used.

"Michael's dad wrote to me and said he was putting a CD together for friends and family.

"We thought it was such a tragic loss."

Paul Blakey said family and friends were busy organising events to help raise the £20,000 needed to build the Michael Blakey Centre.

Following his death last November, well-wishers said they wanted to build the centre in Michael's memory to carry on the charity's work.

The 23-year-old, of Mayfair Road, Pike Hill, was killed while working with the Tong Len Charitable Trust helping refugee families in Dharamsala.

Police are investigating Michael's death with their inquiries leading them to a possible motive of robbery.

Michael's wallet and mobile phone were missing when his body was found.
