PROFESSIONAL and amateur artists are being enlisted to paint their depictions of Padiham.

In a first for the town, an art competition is being staged which will see participants head out, within a one-mile radius, to capture the essence of the locality.

Painting Padiham, this Saturday from 8am, from has been arranged by the StormArt Picture House galleries, both based in Burnley Road.

A £1,000 is on offer to the winning entrant, donated by A1 Motor Stores, and the leading efforts will be framed by Picture House.

An exhibition of all artworks will then take place over a four-week period, at StormArt, from May 20.

An event spokesman said: “This exciting event is open to artists, both professional and amateur, using any style or media, except photography.

“Participants will be asked to select a location within a one-mile radius of Padiham Town Hall, and can paint inside or outside. Visitors to the event will be able to see artists at work and enjoy seeing original art created before their eyes.”

Town centre venues will also showcasing artists’ pieces all this week.
