A WOMAN who died in a devastating house fire has been named.

Police said the young woman who died at her terrace Hapton home was Katrina Rose Black aged 21.

Known to friends as Rosie, the young mum was a former Colne Park High School and a former Burnley College sixth form student.

She was formally identified yesterday following the fire at her Manchester Road home on Sunday night.

Friends shared their distress at the news on her Facebook page yesterday.

One friend, Kimmy Louise Bonsall said: “RIP Rosie xoxoxox”. Lisa Fox said: “ RIP, Rosie – so sad xx”, and another friend Michaela Walmsley said: “I can't believe it. RIP Never to be forgotten.” Before she was formally identified, an outpouring of sympathy in the Hapton community saw flowers and teddy bears laid outside her home.

Police had said the woman was the sole tenant at the Hapton address.

A post-mortem examination has revealed that she died as a result of toxic fumes from the fire. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in Manchester Road, Hapton, at 10.45pm on Sunday night.

Three fire crews were called to battle the flames and firefighters searched the property for unknown casualties in intense heat and smoke.

They discovered Miss Black in an upstairs bedroom.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and an investigation is continuing, although it is still being treated as unexplained.
