THE case of a pensioner who was cruel to an Irish Terrier was adjourned until May 24 by Burnley magistrates.
Joseph Kelly, 65, had been convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to the dog, after holding it's head in a restricted way so it's eyes rolled back and it became motionless.
He had denied the allegation.
Burnley Magistrates heard Kelly, of Hanover Street, Colne, had been attacked on his way to court and had been taken to hospital.
The defendant had been due to be sentenced, but, the court was told, a psychiatric report may be obtained before he learns his fate.
