GREEN-FINGERED people across Burnley have been encouraged to renew their Burnley Council garden waste collection service.

The council started taking renewed subscriptions for the second year of the chargeable service at the beginning of March and more than 4,000 people signed up in the first three weeks.

The service costs £30 and lasts for a year and those who want to re-subscribe can do so up to April 13.

Joanne Swift, head of the council’s street scene unit, said: "Spring is finally with us and people are starting to go out into the garden again and getting their hands dirty.

"Having a regular collection service is easier than having to fill your car boot with soil and cuttings and taken them to the tip.

"We’re encouraging those who already use the service to renew their subscription."
