A CHARITY is commemorating the sacrifices horses played in war alongside British and Allied servicemen this Remembrance Sunday.
Visitors to to Horses and Ponies Protection Association (HAPPA), at Shores Hey Farm, will be able to see the four foot tall ‘War Horse’ decorated with poppies in memory of all the equines whose lives were lost at war. The Horse will be on display throughout Remembrance Weekend and for a small donation to The Royal British Legion, and visitors will be encouraged to leave messages of hope and remembrance on the poppies.
Animals have served in crucial parts of war these include equines, dogs, cats, camels, pigeons, and even a bear and an elephant are recorded as playing a vital role throughout the history of conflict.
" We will never forget those servicemen who gave their lives so that we may be free, but we should also remember the millions of animals who also fought and died alongside those men. Millions of equines were deployed in battle with many never making it back, 'Lest We Forget'."
War Horse can be seen in the visitor's centre at Shores Hey Farm, Blackhouse Lane, Briercliffe, Burnley BB10 3QU between 11am and 4pm until 17th November.
