A ‘TERRIFIED’ mother has warned parents about the dangers of baby jewellery after she found her son choking on his bracelet.

Corinne Baker, 20, found her six-month-old son being sick after he had accidentally swallowed a bracelet, which had been securely attached to his arm.

The Burnley College student, who is on maternity leave, said she was cleaning in the same room as little Tobias, who was playing in his baby bouncer, when the incident took place.

After realising her baby was struggling to breathe, Miss Baker looked inside her son’s mouth and saw the bangle at the back of his throat.

After she reached in and pulled it out, Tobias’ breathing returned to normal.

Miss Baker, of Windermere Avenue, Burnley, said she felt lucky she was in the room at the right time.

She said: “I was absolutely terrified, he vomited quite hard and was breathing really funny.

“I just kept patting his back and he wasn’t getting any better.

“I was getting scared because I couldn’t see anything to make him choke until I looked inside his mouth. I keep thinking about what might have happened if it had been at night or I was not in the room.

“He had worn the bracelet since he was two months old and had been given the bracelet as a gift.

“It was tight enough on his wrist so it wouldn’t come off and it wouldn’t hurt him.

“I’m just so relieved. He is not going to wear it anymore, it’s going in a memory box.”

Miss Baker said she wants other parents to be aware of the dangers around the bracelets.

She said: “It’s a really beautiful bracelet and it will only come out and be worn on special occasions.

“I want other mums and dads to know that despite how tight or secure it may look, it may come off and go into their child’s mouth.

“I’m still puzzled about it now.

“The baby cried a little bit afterwards but he returned to his normal happy self.”

An NHS spokesman said if a child is choking and the object is visible in its mouth, remove it.

If a child becomes unconscious during choking call 999 and do not leave it alone.
