Burnley Councillor Lubna Khan has launched a Just Giving campaign in support of the local branch of the Royal British Legion.

The aim is to raise funds to allow Burnley and Padiham veterans to take part in the Great Pilgrimage 90.

This Pilgrimage, which is set to be the Legion’s biggest membership event in their history, will take place in August 2018 and will see two representatives from every branch of the Royal British Legion carry their standards along in Ypres to the Menin Gate.

Those taking part will be representing an entire generation that served while defending their country.

Councillor Khan said “We heard that the Burnley and Padiham British Legion want to participate in this important event by sending two representatives.

"The cost per branch is £1,000 to cover all transport, food, accommodation and travel insurance costs.

"As a small branch, comprising mainly elderly members, Burnley Royal British Legion said they needed to raise funds in order to participate in this important event.

"If we manage get over the £1000 target, any extra money will be used for the day to day expenses involved."
