A 23-YEAR-OLD man who intervened as police arrested his brother ended being locked up himself.
Blackburn magistrates heard Juned Miah blocked the officers' path and shouted abuse before running off shouting 'catch me if you can'.
He was arrested after a short chase.
Miah, of Grey Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to obstructing a police officer. He was fined £80 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, attended the defendant's home address to arrest his brother.
"It was a difficult arrest," said Miss Allan. "By the time the defendant came out of the house and intervened there were a lot of people on the street."
Richard Prew, defending, said his client felt the police were being heavy handed with his brother and got himself involved.
"For his trouble he spent some time in custody," said Mr Prew.
