THOSE who suffered flood damage in the Boxing Day 2015 floods been asked to get their financial support applications in before the end of the month.

Burnley Council has run a flood resilience grant scheme since Storm Eva ripped through parts of the borough.

Each applicant is entitled to up to £5,000 to fund extra flood defences and resistance measures.

The work would help prevent potential future floods or help limit the damage caused by one.

Mick Cartledge, the council's chief operating officer, said: "If someone was affected by the Boxing Day 2015 floods and feels they could be eligible for a grant they should apply now."

Thousands of people were left without power and many were made homeless as rivers burst their banks and water rushed through the streets of East Lancashire.

So far the council has approved 48 business applications and paid out a total of £162,556.65.

A further £153,259.50 has been given out to 35 residential applications.

The money has been provided by the government.

The deadline for applications is Friday, March 31, and existing applicants will be dealt with after the deadline.
