A BURNLEY woman who left her former partner with a stab wound to the thigh after a confrontation in the street has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Lisa Jane Chadwick, 30, claimed her ex-lover Thomas Rogers had returned to the neighbourhood to taunt her after they split up, the town’s crown court was told.

But the victim insisted Chadwick just snapped, as he was laughing and joking with friends near the home they once shared, brandishing a seven-inch kitchen knife and leaving him with a stab wound to the thigh.

Chadwick, of Conway Grove, Burnley, admitted attempted grievous bodily harm. She was given a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years.

Emma Kehoe, prosecuting, said the pair’s year-long relationship had been “rocky”.

Mr RogersHe later told police that he had been to a nearby shop Tesco convenience store and had begun chatting with people he knew in the Conway Grove area.

The court heard Chadwick left her home, at the bottom of a cul-de-sac, and was abusive and made threats, before raising the seven-inch kitchen knife above her head and striking Mr Rogers’ thigh.

She then returned home, where she herself called the police and told an operator she needed to be arrested.

Sarah Maxwell, defending, said her client, who was feeling low after her mother died, insisted Mr Rogers had visited the neighbourhood to taunt her.
