AN ABANDONED hall in Burnley which was once in line to be restored to its former glory has been put up for sale.
The owners of Extwistle Hall in Todmorden Road are asking for offers in excess of the £500,000 asking price.
MORE TOP STORIES:
The property has been empty for more than 20 years and is Grade II listed.
Built in the 16th century, the derelict hall has appeared on Historic England’s At Risk register.
In 2012 plans were announced for a housing development to help fund the hall’s refurbishment.
Between 100 and 120 homes were planned to be built on Bend Hill.
The profits would have been used to pay for the £2 million transformation of the site.
The sale of the houses planned for Bend Hill, on land behind Queen Street Mill, would have raised money to pay for the restoration of building, which was then planned to be sold.
So far the housing scheme has not been approved.
At the time, concerns were raised about the traffic congestion that such a large development would create.
