THE achievements of school students from across Burnley and Padiham were recognised this week at the School Attendance Awards.

Pupils from a number of primary and secondary schools attended the event, which was hosted by Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, to collect their 100 per cent attendance certificates.

Pupils from Blessed Trinity RC College, Sir John Thursby Community College, Hameldon Community College and Unity College were among those who received awards.

After receiving their awards from Karen Buchanan, Deputy Principal of Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, students participated in a range of exciting activities designed to illustrate the range of subjects and skills they can learn at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre.

Students learned how to make slime and create fridge magnets from the College’s outstanding tutors, and also engaged with the College’s industry standard plumbing workshop and fashion and textiles workshop.

Joyce Hargraves, home schools liaison officer at Blessed Trinity RC, said: “The awards are a positive way of saying well done for our students’ attendance and recognising their achievement.

"Attendance is not only vital for their studies now, but also for the years to come.

"Coming to Burnley College Sixth Form Centre opens up the students to new ideas of what they want to do after they finish their GCSEs.

"It’s fantastic that we can show students what they can progress onto through our links with the College.”

Janet Crossley, head of student services at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, added: “It’s wonderful to celebrate to the success and achievement of students from the local area.

"We always enjoy having pupils from local schools visit Burnley College Sixth Form Centre and sharing some of our outstanding lessons.”
