DINOSAURS, spaceships and UFO's have been creating a stir in Burnley after an artist let his imagination run wild.

Talented Tom Lund has created a colourful mural in Burnley Wood as part of a community regeneration project.

The 18-year-old who painted the mural, in Sussex Street, with the help of a group of local young people in a bid to brighten up the landscape.

Tom, who studied Fine Art and Graphics at Burnley College, and is now studying Fine Art at The Arts University College in Bournemouth said: “I was asked to join a project by Bill Horrocks, who’s actually running this community project.

“I was a little intimidated at first as I haven’t done anything like this before but I thought it would challenge my artistic and creative skills and would make the area look creative and inspiring to the local community.

“I hope that the people from the area will think that this mural makes it look more creative and is something that they can be proud of as all the ideas came from the children that live in this area.

“They all had ideas and it seemed to fall in to place with what they all wanted to see on the wall.”

The artwork features a centrepiece of two clashing giants, a T-rex and a Stegosaurus, as well as UFOs, animals, BMX stunts, volcanoes and mountian ranges.

Bill Horrocks, project organiser said: “I’ve known Tom even since he was born, and he’s been widely recognised in the area recently, he’s been doing some magnificent artwork.

“He’s had some amazing canvasses on display at Burnley College, and I thought a wall would be a bigger canvas.

“He’s not done anything like that before, or used spray paint as a medium. It’s very exciting.

“I’m very pleased with how it’s turned out, everybody is delighted.

“Tom has passed on his skills to the young people and encouraged them to develop their own artwork.”

The materials for the mural were provided by Burnley College.

Alison Cameron-Brandwood, head of Burnley College Sixth Form Centre said: “It’s a wonderful project to be a part of and the college is very pleased to be able to help create such an amazing public space. ”
