FORTY new jobs are being created at a new discount store in Burnley.

Home Bargains is opening its second store in the town, taking the total number of employees to 60.

Bosses said around £500,000 has been invested in the store in Colne Road, next to Lidl.

The discount retailer, which already operates 300 stores, has announced plans to open a further 50 stores across the UK in the next 12 months as it bucks current trends in the industry.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “We’re excited to be opening our new store in Burnley and look forward to welcoming customers through the doors.”

The 13,000 sq ft store, which is almost twice as big as the current store on Curzon Street, will sell top branded goods at low prices, including health and beauty, household, toys, sweets and snacks, home style and drinks and alcohol.

Joe said: “Colne Road will be a great location for Burnley shoppers — we’re thrilled to be in a position to offer local people even more top branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

The firm was established more than 30 years ago by Tom Morris, with its first store in Old Swan, Liverpool. It is family run and is one of the largest companies based on Merseyside, employing approximately 10,000 members of staff nationally.

The new Colne Road store opens from 9am on Saturday.
