A MUM has quit smoking so she can be a good role-model for her seven-year-old daughter.

Adela Rodriguez, of Brunshaw Road, Burnley, cut out the habit eight weeks ago and her story has been highlighted by a clinic to mark No Smoking Day today.

The 27-year-old cousin of former Burnley FC star Jay, who smoked 15 cigarettes a day for ten years, said she has used her daughter Megan as inspiration to kick the habit.

She said: “Megan didn’t know that I smoked as I never did it in front of her.

“I think it would have broken her heart and I didn’t want to upset her. I don’t think you should ever smoke in front of your kids. Giving up is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I got up yesterday morning thinking I could do with one but I’m not going to have one.”

Adela, who works at clothing chain Next and is also a youth coach for Burnley Ladies, has been helped by a stop-smoking a clinic at Yorkshire Street Medical Centre, delivered by Burnley Council’s healthy lifestyles team.

Though she has tried to quit three times before, she has been unable to get past four weeks without relapsing.

This time, she decided to use nicotine replacement therapy and opted for the mini lozenge, which she had tried in the past.

Since quitting she has enjoyed walking more, and hardly uses the car now. She said she feels fitter and has more energy.

And Adela said she and her daughter have found they are going on more days out and treating themselves to new things with the money saved.
