A LIBRARY assistant from Clitheroe is set for his hour of fame when he takes to the stand at Antony Gormley’s Trafalgar Square exhibition.

Gary Wilson, 56, who works at Whalley library, has been selected at random to stand on the fourth plinth at the One and Other exhibition this month.

He said: “When I was lucky enough to be selected to take part in Antony Gormley’s One and Other project, I thought about how to make my hour count.

“During my teaching career I saw that many individuals had missed out on opportunities to gain the skills necessary for the enjoyment of reading, and I couldn’t help feeling that a child who has not been encouraged to discover the magic of reading is a child who has been cheated.

“The National Literacy Trust works with communities, libraries and schools to promote and encourage a love of reading and writing.

“For this reason I decided to use my hour to highlight the work of the Trust, and to read a story or two.

"The message I would like to get across is just this: read to your children.”
