Pregnant woman and husband to be deported from Blackburn to separate countries

BABY ON WAY: Failed asylum seekers husband and wife Vladimer and Diana, who live in Blackburn, face deportation to different countries BABY ON WAY: Failed asylum seekers husband and wife Vladimer and Diana, who live in Blackburn, face deportation to different countries

A YOUNG married couple who are expecting their first child are set to be deported - to separate countries.

Childhood sweethearts Vladimer Shakhbazyan and Diana Nadryan fled to England when Russia and Georgia were in midst of a bloody war a year ago.

But their visas have expired and Vladimer is set to be returned to Georgia, with pregnant Diana facing deportation to Russia.

The couple, who are living in Wimberly Street, Blackburn, said they would “do anything” to stay together and both fear for their safety if they are deported.

A local councillor has joined their fight to stay in the country but their chances are looking remote following a string of failed asylum applications.

Nadryan, 24, who is four months pregnant, said: “It’s like having a broken life. We have been through so much to be together and now we are getting sent to two different countries.

“If anything this has brought us closer together. We have done everything we can to stay together, but now our papers will not let us stay.”

The couple, who are Kurdish, met as children growing up in Georgia, but Diana’s family moved to Russia and she now has a Russian passport while Vladimer remained in Georgia.

Vladimer’s family refuse to accept their relationship because of cultural differences relating to their Kurdish background, and the couple say they would be hounded out of Georgia.

They have spent time living in Russia together but Vladimer, 25, who wants to be a fireman, said he had been beaten by Russian police and it became impossible to stay after the war broke out in August.

After fleeing Moscow they spent time living together in London as students but their visas expired and immigration judges have rejected their appeals to stay.

Vladimer said: “I try not to think about not seeing the baby, the most important thing is for it to be healthy.”

Lib Dem, councillor Sajid Ali, who represents Bastwell, is lobbying the authorities including Blackburn MP and former Home Secretary Jack Straw.

He said: “It is a very sad case, they should be allowed to be together.”

I'd let 'em stay tbh. They sound like the kind people who actually might be net producers in more than one way.

Don't hold your breath. How many more have been selected for deportation but they are still here. Still costing us money.

why do people think that its ok to breed when they are not working?? i can just imagine the conversation " We are going to get deported so lets spawn an offspring and try to get a visa that way"

Madari the snake charmer says:
Why is it that every time an `Illegal' is threatened with deportation they always claim that they fear for their safety if deported, why dont they be honest and state the truth, and that is that all the freebies that they get in this country will be no more, that is the real reason for being in this country in the first place.

And as for Quote: `its like having a broken life`well there are plenty of children who are living a broken life....so without sounding racist i suggest they go back to wherever they came from and make their sob story public where it might get attention because the people of blackburn and especially the British born asians of the town ,and i know many, are fed up of these eastern europeans coming into Bburn with their their sob stories.

Anyone taking such delight in splitting a young family before it has chance disgusts me. Also, I think you'll find that Blackburn escaped serious bomb damage during the war and that people moved to the area to fill the many jobs available in industry, particularly in textiles. Unfortunately these jobs do not exist any more. There is a BBC series currently profiling a 25 year old Blackburn girl - jobless, living off her mum, lazy and uncouth. I say clear these types out of the town first before looking to anyone else - whatever race, religion or colour they may be.

I'm sorry these two are just economic tourists who've come to take their weekly withdrawal from the "big bank". There is no reason why they should settle in this country and have no legal status as refugees.

Goodbye

Where is your compassion? This couple are going to be split up! We have hundreds of criminals in this country who aren`t being deported.

Whats the problem? They can meet up again after deportation. They can live together in Russia or Georgia where they will not be a burden on the UK
