THE MOTHER of a Blackburn schoolboy fighting a rare childhood cancer has praised the generosity of strangers after a fundraising appeal for life-saving treatment reached £150,000.

The news comes as the family of six-year-old Theo Power, who has stage four high-risk neuroblastoma, announce their latest fundraiser, a ‘Theo family fun day’ on September 4.

The event will be held at Feniscowles and Pleasington Recreation Ground, Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn, from 11am to 5pm.

Leoni Jordan, Theo’s mum said: “We just want as many people as possible to come down, have fun and raise money for a fantastic cause.

“We are so grateful for the money already raised and there are no words to be able to thank people for their continued support.

“It’s just outstanding. We will forever be in debt to these people. Family and friends have been very supportive but a lot of the donations for Theo are from strangers.”

Theo, of Moorcroft, Lower Darwen, was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma - an extremely aggressive form of cancer with survival rates of between 35 and 50 per cent - in July and has since had chemotherapy, radiotherapy and various operations.

He is currently halfway through immunotherapy treatment and once completed he will go to the US for a £250,000 Difluoromethylornithine (DFO) clinical trial, not available on the NHS.

The fun day will feature an inflatable assault course, bouncy castles, a sweet shop, a tombola stall, zorb balls, facepainting, food and drink stands and various stalls.
