PADIHAM’S new mayor is keeping it all in the family.
Howard Hudson is the younger brother of the current mayor of Burnley, Coun Frank Cant.
Coun Hudson believes it is the first time two siblings have shared the civic honours – but the coincidence will only last for a matter of weeks as Coun Cant’s mayoral year comes to an end on June 4.
Coun Hudson, a Padiham town councillor for Green ward, said it was a proud time for his family.
The 54-year-old engineer said: “I’ve lived in Padiham my whole life so it’s great to make a little bit of history.
“I took on my step-father’s surname but we’re very much brothers and hopefully I’ll enjoy my year as much as Frank has enjoyed his.”
Mr Hudson’s wife, Patricia, and his two children and three grandchildren were all present at Padiham Town Hall to see him receive the mayoral chains on Friday night.
