Blackburn street set for alleygates to reduce crime

NEW alleygates to combat burglars, thugs and vandals are on the way for worried residents of a Blackburn street.

Concerned householders in Johnston Street, Wensley Fold, have petitioned Blackburn with Darwen council to introduce the scheme to block off the ginnels at the backs of their houses.

It is hoped the gates will reduce graffiti, fly-tipping, dog fouling, rubbish fires and other ‘environmental crime’ which has plagued the area.

Officials have told the executive board that the £6,500 required funds are available.

Senior councillors will meet on Thursday and are likely to give the plans the go ahead.

And already happens in the Infirmary area of Blackburn and the gates have only been up for a few weeks.
In fact, one resident obstructs the gates with his car, making them impossible to close at the very time that they should be, at night.

Since they are commiting no road traffic offence, the Police aren't interested. Something our new PCC should be addressing, whenever he comes to visit Blackburn.

Although I am giving really serious consideration to writing to Santa, as

The main culprits of not closing the gates in the Intack area of Blackburn are the bin-men.
Every week they are left open after they have been on Accrington Road. It has been reported several times to the council but no-one takes any notice. What is the point of putting these gates on if the bin-men are leaving them open.
