AN ILLEGAL travellers site in Blackburn could see legal action taken today to move them on.
Around a dozen caravans are at the Green Lane site, on council-owned land at Greenfield Community Centre.
The site is thought to have begun with a few vans arriving before the Easter break when council officers were not on duty.
Around 11 caravans are sited on grass near the community centre, with some pitched on the community centre’s car park.
Ward councillor Brian Gordon has reported the site to Blackburn with Darwen council officers and the police.
Legal notices are expected to be served on travellers early this morning.
He said: “The caravans began turning up last Thursday because they knew there was no one to tackle them.
“Residents who live nearby are very unhappy and contacted me immediately.
“They are unhappy with the prospect of being left with the litter and a big mess on their doorstep as well as the effect on their community centre. The council and police have told me they will be issuing Section 61 notices, to be served on travellers early on Wednesday morning and I will be there also.”
Lancashire Police said they are working with Blackburn Council to address complaints made about the site.
