A MAN armed with a Samurai sword and a gun brought terror to a residential street.

Residents fled inside their homes in Honeyhole, in the Mosley Street area of Blackburn, when the man walked through the courtyard screaming threats.

The thug then banged on windows and doors of homes at random, police said.

For five minutes the man continued to shout that he had weapons and was not afraid to use them, residents said.

Police seized a two-foot long Samurai sword and a handgun at the scene.

A 33-year-old man is tonight being quizzed by police on suspicion of intent to cause fear or violence.

One resident, mum-of-two Shona Queen, 43, said the incident at 9.30pm on Sunday had been “extremely scary”.

Mrs Queen who saw the man banging on doors and shouting threats, fled inside her home as the drama unfolded.

She said: “It was a scary incident. This is a very tight-knit community with a lot of young families and children.

"It is horrendous to think what might have happened.

“I could hear him saying that he had a gun and a sword. He was incredibly agitated.”

Neighbour Emma Perry, 26, was outside with her two children when the incident began.

She said: “It was madness. At first I heard a lot of shouting.

"We were all scared because there are a lot of children here.

"It is a quiet street and this was a big shock.

“It was a nice day and there were a lot of people who were still out and about at the time.”

A police spokesman said: “A 33-year-old man was arrested after reports of a disturbance at Honeyhole.

"A sword and a replica gun were recovered from the scene.”
