BLACKBURN Rovers head coach Tony Mowbray revealed he has held talks with owners Venky’s for the first time since taking charge.

Mowbray was appointed as head coach on February 22, a day after Owen Coyle left his position as manager after eight months at the Ewood Park helm.

He admitted he hadn’t spoken to the owners immediately after taking the job, having been approached by Rovers’ Director of Football Operations Paul Senior.

But Mowbray revealed he has now spoken with a member of the Rao family and admits they were ‘very supportive’, with the head coach having guided Rovers to seven points out of a possible nine since replacing Coyle.

“I have spoken to one gentleman, it was a very genial conversation,” Mowbray said of any contact with the club’s Indian owners.

“They were very supportive, they were happy that I was here, encouraging, and like everyone else they will wait and see what happens over the next dozen games.

“It was good to have that conversation, and I think they will let me get on and manage the football team hopefully to safety this year and then we can all talk again in the summer and what the next step is.

“For me I just focus on the group of players and the fixture list we have in front of us, coming in to work every day and working hard and leaving no stone unturned in the preparation for the next game.

“Let’s see how we go, and if we can get enough wins, then I think we can look forward and hopefully try and prepare a team that can ask questions at the other end of the table next season.”
