FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house fire in Blackburn this morning after reports a man was trapped inside.

Two fire engines from Blackburn and one from Darwen were called to the incident in Spring Bank Terrace at 3.05am.

When they arrived nobody was trapped in the building but smoke could be seen coming from the kitchen.

Firefighters entered the house wearing breathing apparatus and found food had been left cooking on the hob and had set alight.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and a portable fan to clear the smoke.

Nobody was injured.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A fire service spokesman said: "Three fire engines and crews, two from Blackburn and one from Darwen, were assigned to a report that a man may still be inside a house in which a fire in the kitchen could be seen.

"Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire and established that no-one was in fact trapped inside the property.

"There were no casualties. A pan of food had been left on a cooker hob and the contents had set alight. A portable fan unit was used to extract the smoke and heat."
