Mason, of Essex Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting Karla Hull. She was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months and made subject to 25 days’ rehabilitation.

She was also ordered to pay £125 compensation and £100 costs and made subject to a restraining order which prohibits her from having any contact with Miss Hull for 12 months.

Enza Geldard, prosecuting, said Mason had been charged with a man called Michael Young.

He been present at the time and admitted damaging Miss Hulls’ car but had been acquitted after a trial of taking part in the assault.

Miss Hull had been in a relationship with Mr Young for nine years before it ended in June 2015.

“He became involved in a relationship with the defendant but it would appear was still sleeping with Miss Hull,” said Mrs Geldard.

“Mason became aware of that and there had been an exchange of texts and calls.”

Mrs Geldard said on the day of the incident Mr Young and Mason turned up outside Miss Hull’s home.

After being struck several times Miss Hull bit Mason on the hand which allowed her to get back into her house and close the door.

Johnathan Taylor, defending, said when his client confronted Miss Hull she admitted sleeping with Mr Young in a ‘what are you going to do about it’ way.

“She accepts she went for the other woman but there were blows in both directions and Miss Hull bit my client’s hand quite savagely,” said Mr Taylor.

He said Mason knew she should not have got involved but was feeling bitter towards Miss Hull who was saying on social media that she was still sleeping with Mr Young.
