BLACKBURN Rovers have announced they have had their Financial Fair Play embargo lifted.

It means new Rovers boss Paul Lambert will be able to pay fees for permanent and loan signings once the transfer window reopens on January 1.

It also means any new signings Lambert makes next month and in the summer will be able to earn more than £10,000 per week.

And it also means that the club will no longer be restricted to a squad of a maximum 24 established players who, under Financial Fair Play regulations, are those aged over the age of 21 on June 30 and who have made five first-team starts for their current club.

But Rovers have stressed that they need to ‘proceed with restraint’ in order not to go back under the embargo, which was first imposed on the club on January 1 this year.

But they have also stressed that ‘all efforts will continue to be made to provide the manager, Paul Lambert, and football staff to work effectively and efficiently’.

A club statement reads: “Blackburn Rovers confirm that following discussions with the Football League the club is now compliant with the rules and regulations on Financial Fair Play.

“During the past 12 months, the board of directors and staff have worked hard to ensure that the necessary requirements have been put in place to satisfy the Football League.

“This has been achieved through a number of measures being undertaken, most notably, the owners agreeing and implementing a loan conversion agreement, effective cost efficiency savings and player sales, which were limited to reflect the needs of the team and football management.

“The owners and board of directors feel it prudent to proceed with restraint, in order to give the club the best possible environment to continue to be compliant in subsequent years, however all efforts will continue to be made to provide the manager, Paul Lambert, and football staff to work effectively and efficiently.

“The club wishes to put on record its thanks to the Football League for its co-operation during this period.”
