BLACKBURN Railway Station is now greeting travellers to the town with a modern entrance hall after months of renovation work.

Passengers travelling to and from the station can now benefit from new automatic doors and entrance glazing, anti-slip flooring, new wall cladding, CCTV cameras and handrails on the access ramp and stairs.

The project, which complements the multi-million pound Cathedral Quarter, was announced by Northern Rail in June 2014.

Manager of the Blackburn Business Improvement District, Harriet Roberts, said: “As a rail commuter working in Blackburn, I think it’s great that the station provides a clean, bright, modern gateway to the town centre.

“The pieces of the development are really beginning to fit together so that you can get a glimpse of the big vision.

“Visitors coming in by train at the end of this year will be dropped right in the heart of the new development work and if they’ve not been recently will be surprised at the new Blackburn.”
