Grant cut penalises Blackburn residents, says council leader
8:00pm Wednesday 16th January 2013 in Blackburn
Council leader Kate Hollern
BLACKBURN with Darwen council leader Kate Hollern and MP Jack Straw yesterday told local government minister Brandon Lewis that imposing a one fifth cut in the borough’s Whitehall grant was penalising its residents.
They went to Westminster to call for a rethink so local people got a fair deal..
The meeting followed the local government settlement leaving the Council facing cuts of £27m (20 per cent of total budget).
This follows previous reductions of £40m.
Coun Hollern and Blackburn MP Mr Straw told Mr Lewis about the borough’s strengths and challenges. The meeting focussed on the grant calculations, and council financial planning.
Coun Hollern said: “These funding cuts are impossible to absorb without causing real misery.
“We have to be realistic about the prospect of extra funding though I’m hopeful that our points about a fair deal and time to plan will be taken on board.”

Harry Dent is not one to shy away from predictions. Just take a quick look at some of the man's bibliography: he wrote The Great Boom Ahead in 1993 and followed it up with The Great Jobs Ahead in 1995. In 2009, he authored The Great Depression Ahead, and in 2011, The Great Crash Ahead.
Now, Dent, the economic forecaster perhaps best known for the use of demographics in his analysis, is predicting a big market crash this summer. Exactly why the tories awarded £144 for pensioners from 2017.. They know very well that £144 will not get you anything in 2017 due to another assault on humanity..
They could actually bring in a food voucher policy for people on benefits and pensions blaming it on all allsorts of reasons from problem families not being responsible enough to spend their benfits wisely "brilliant idea in some cases" through to global food shortages and the unemployed low earners and pensioners being priced out of the market. The Dollar Euro and pound may not even survive the next crash either way the food shortages will no doubt start to affect all of us in the near future. Food prices are about to soar due to global crop failures last year and that pushes up prices in everything else.
The summer crash also shows us why Georgie Osborne hasn't created any growth because he knows very well whats coming, He should do his bankster buddies have orchestrated all the misery that has been cast upon humanity since the trip from 9/11 to tyranny began.
Times running out for the masses to wake up to the simple fact that we are being lied to about the global depression food shortages and many many other nasty stuff and we have got to a crossroad in our development. A new age has sarted.
There are people or we think they're people hell bent on depopulating the planet by 90% So thats the crossroads do the 90% rid of the 10% before theres only 10% left or do we all just carry on as we are and hope that things will get better. 10% or 90%..? FIGHT...............
