Special operation in place for Burnley and Blackburn Rovers derby

LARGE NUMBERS Police officers on patrol outside Turf Moor at the last derby game LARGE NUMBERS Police officers on patrol outside Turf Moor at the last derby game

SPECIAL measures are being put in place ahead of the East Lancashire football derby on December 2.

Plans have been made to ensure the clash between bitter rivals Burnley and Blackburn Rovers passes without incident.

Representatives from both clubs have been meeting with police to discuss the best way of controlling the crowds ahead of the 12.30pm kick off.

All Rovers fans attending the game will arrive at Turf Moor in coaches via the Blackburn Rovers Away Travel scheme with pick ups from either Ewood Park or GEC Business Park in Accrington.

Coach tickets are £6.50 and are allocated along with match tickets. Fans from Ewood Park have had to apply for the 3,400 away supporter tickets in writing, with no extra tickets held back for sale on match day.

Roads closest to Turf Moor, including Harry Potts Way and Belvedere Road, will be closed prior to the match and at full time to facilitate the Blackburn Rovers coaches, although during the game there will be access.

Officers said they were confident the game would pass without issue and they would police it as they would any other game.

Superintendent Terry Woods said: “We have been working closely with both football clubs planning the arrangements for the match at Turf Moor in December.

“As with previous encounters between the two teams, the same travel arrangements will apply to this fixture and also the game at Ewood Park in March.

“The policing priority for us is simple. To ensure the safety of the supporters and of those involved in the game. We have been consulting with the official supporters clubs of the two teams and have listened to their feedback.”

Fans wanting more information are being urged to contact their club.

The only thing I would like answering would be the consistancy of rules.

When we played in March 2010, I was told by a Policman (in the away end) to take my beer to my seat. Lots of Blackburn fans were told this. I agreed with the decision too, because there was a huge chance someone was going to get injured in a crush under the stand. You honestly couldnt move.

After the 1-0 win, I was reading the news the day later only to be told Blackburn fans took drinks to there seats illegally. We were told to take alcohol to our seats. This news about fans doing without Police notice wasnt true, and I would tell this infront of any court of law.

This is the true face of football, unlawful hooligans and criminals. hiding behind the face of football to become lunatics with no respect for man nor beast. It is time for government to look into it and make crucial decisions. I have played and watched football most of my 70 year's but I am now realising it has got to change or be banned. Please don't be misguided into thinking the minority are going to win, they are no longer the minority every ground you go to in the country there are thousands of idiots doing what ever they want and to hell with law and order. It is not just here it is every country in the world people going to watch a match and being subject to every form of crime from stealing to killing. Britain invented the game perhaps they should be the first to ban it.

Play the game behind closed doors, this will save the tax payer 1000.00s of £s.

Couldnt agree more about the scum that exist in society and the ones that attend matches to cause danger to others.

As ive said many times before the answer to all this is simple:--

ALL CRIMINALS SHOULD FACE THE HANG MAN - easy solution!

1) No need for prisons - massive savings to the tax payer

2) A "good" society will be blooded for our children to live in

3) No more people scared to leave there houses, and harmony for all

4) Reduced carbon footprint and recycling benefits

The only downside would be if an innocent person was wrongly convicted, but surely the benefit of the greater good is more important.

Comrade, I regret to inform you that ANY recognition of ANY court, either Criminal, Civil or Ecclesiastical - which falls outside The Peoples Republic of Blackburn will automatically lead to your exclusion from the Party. Knuzden is almost Gobbinland, Comrade.

Special Operation in place? It sounds like this is going to cost the taxpayer Hundreds of Thousands of pounds. Let the two clubs pay for it. Or let them play behind closed doors. Let us face the facts these two "clubs" are in the lower divisions and are likely to stay there for some considerable time. The match has no significant interest to the general public and the outcome is therefore irrelevant. On that basis the two business clubs should not burden the taxpayer with their nonsense. I personally would make all football clubs pay for all policing. After all they can afford to pay the players ridiculous amounts of money.

Not sure the approach they are taking is right, as I understand that Burnley pubs are being granted permission to open for breakfast.
This makes a bit of a mockery of the early start of 12.30 to avoid the drunken idiots being around !
I, for one just hope that it is a good competitive game, with football being the winner and making the headlines, and nothing else.
Having said thet I am hoping for a win for Rovers, extending their record beyond 34 years.

There will be lots of kids on this game,so it's time for the big kids to demonstrate to them what healthy competition looks like whilst harnessing some self respect for both players and the opposite set of fans, nothing wrong with banter and a hot atmosphere, however violence is for those that are inept at expressing themselves in an intellectual and appropriative way.! Looking forward to a cracking game UTC

Absolutely true. The merciless beating of the Burnley supporters in a stand last time at Turf Moor was disgraceful. The police were like animals enjoying themselves with batons whilst the fans could not get away.

Let those who want a good punch up crack on and get on with it . Whilst the rest of us watch the game and have the banter after the game with friends, school and workmates etc.
Both games should be packed to the rafters with fans supporting their teams but no doubt there will be empty seats at both grounds due to a massive over
reaction by the authorities .
