BLACKBURN Rovers mascot Rover the Dog is gearing up for a 100-metre dash with a difference, at Doncaster race course. Mascots from more than 20 clubs will take part in today’s sprint to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK through its charity partnership with The Football League.

Fans can show their support for Rover the Dog by texting his name to raise funds to help more men survive prostate cancer, and enjoy a better quality of life. The competition will be tough, but Notts County mascot, Mr Magpie, is hot favourite, having won the race last year.

Claire Walsh, head of community and sports fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We are thrilled so many mascots have unleashed their competive side to take part. Every penny raised by fans backing their mascots will help us support more of the 250,000 men living with prostate cancer in the UK.

“Regardless of who reaches the finish line first, in our eyes each and every mascot is a real winner.”

Doncaster race course has also pledged to donate £1 to Prostate Cancer UK for every ticket sold today, over and above 4,000. To show your support for Rover the Dog, and to raise funds, text PROSTATE9 Rover to 70004 to make a £3 donation.
