TWO men have been killed in a road accident in Blackburn last night.

The incident happened at around 11:30pm in the A674 Preston Old Road, Feniscowles.

A Volkswagen Golf was travelling towards Blackburn when it collided with a Ford Focus travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the golf, a 35-year-old man from Bamber Bridge, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

His front seat passenger, a 34-year-old man from Blackburn, was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital but died a short time later.

The driver of the Ford Focus, a 59-year-old man from Poulton le Fylde is in a serious condition at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The road was closed to allow accident investigators to carry out their work.

Sergeant Jon Allwright from the Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic accident that has and will affect three families and we have specially trained officers supporting them.

“A full investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the collision or perhaps saw the vehicles in the run up to the collision to come forward and contact the police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Road Policing Unit at Samlesbury on 101.

People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.

Very sad indeed, but how absolutley incompetant of the cops!!! They're not going to get a huge response from witnesses by getting the time of the accident wrong. Or maybe the idiots want that - less paperwork...
Bumbling Idiots!!!!

Its a simple mistake that the officer will not have done on purpose. Im sure after dealing with 2 deaths we would all be feeling pressure. I wonder if the LET put that pic up on purpose, knowing the reaction it would get on here!!! Lets not lose sight of the story and this tragic incident. R.I.P

Agree. Although the BBC are just as bad: they were reporting the accident yesterday morning on line, stating that it had taken place on Thursday 11th October 2012. Getting a number wrong is sloppy and the police shuld do better, but some at the BBC typed in the name of the day wrong!!!!

Totally agree!!! That must have been an awful scene to attend & can understand how shook up & distressed they'd have been afterwards, they're only human after all. No amount of training can ever truly prepare someone for such a scene.
