Latest ‘super school’ opens doors to Blackurn and Darwen pupils Latest ‘super school’ opens doors to Blackurn and Darwen pupils

THE third new ‘super school’ to open this month in Blackburn and Darwen has welcomed its first pupils.

Blackburn Central High School, off Haslingden Road, opened its doors on Wednesday to pupils in Years 10 and 11.

Today is the first day for Year Seven pupils, while yesterday Years Eight and Nine saw their new school for the first time.

The opening had been delayed after £24,000 of computer equipment was stolen.

The school, one of the last in the country to be built in the previous Government’s Building Schools for the Future scheme, sees Beardwood High School and Blakewater College merge, while Crosshill School has also moved to the new building.

Darwen Vale and Witton Park High schools have also opened this month.

Blackburn Central deputy headteacher Majid Ditta said he was delighted to start the school year, which had been delayed after computer equipment was stolen and part of the building damaged during a break-in.

He said: “It has been frustrating with the theft and delayed opening but that has also brought a real community spirit.

“Everyone has mucked in and staff have gone above and beyond the call of duty to get us ready.

“When we saw the kids for the first time in their new uniforms there was a real buzz and excitement.

“A wonderful thing for us was to see the two distinct communities of Blakewater and Beardwood blended together and not singling out the children from Crosshill for being different.

“We want to promote integration wherever possible.”

Crosshill headteacher Ian Maddison said: “This is fabulous. We have had students in for three days now.

“I’m thrilled with the opportunity our children have in this state-of-the-art 21st-century building.

“I am looking forward to sharing all the facilities.

“It has been a challenging transition from the old school, but all the hard work has paid off.”

Why should anyone be ashamed of a school for children with learning dificulties?

If your children are embarrassed about being on the same site as children with learning difficulties, then the problem is with how they have been brought up not the school.

Your comments are regarded as discrimation against children with difficulties of no fault of their own. You never know how lucky you are that it's not your children with severe learning difficulties.

For you to remove yours, you're a bigger idiot!

bit confused by this ghanto persons argument its children should not go to the new blackburn central high school because on the same site sharing some of the facilities are some pupils who have additional support needs? ghanto has an issue because the pupils who attend the crosshill part of the school have blazers with badges identifying their school and then this ghanto states "it wouldve been better if both children had different logos there was no need for healthy and good children to have crosshill logos " healthy and good children? what on earth does that mean? and by the way ghanto making the offensive comments about comparisons with "mental street" etc is something that most children and young people with learning support needs would have better manners than to do. you never know give the school a chance your prejudices might be overcome if you actually get past the issue of a name badge to differentiate different parts of the school

You stupid idiotic woman.

If you go to great lengths to remove your gremlin children from a school that once were educating children with learning difficulties just for the sake of a name, I would not doubt your retarded capability that you would similarily remove your strange offspring and enrol in a land specifically for your alien type where ET and ALF were once attending.

You're not welcome in any Lancashire school, so 4off.

If this is not discrimitative then how suggesting different uniform for different school be discriminative ?????????????
Children with learning difficulties requires special attention and a lot of patience from teacher's educating them, and yes a separate building.

To deliberately target certain children by taking action so it may not be regarded that it's relevant to you, is discrimination. Does Brockhall ring a bell? Would it be sensible for the people of that village to request a name change!

Why is it Ghanto has removed her gremlin children if there are two separate buildings?

Has adamdesk actually looked at the propsectus or the website for this school?
Crosshills is NOT a separate school; it is an integral part of BCHS. From what I have just read, it can best be viewed as a "house" within the main school structure which just happens to have its own building. There is one management team, one headteacher. Inclusivity is the theme of the school.
So no, there is no call for a separate uniform: the students amalgamated into the new school on the Witton Park site won't have one......
So yes, adamdesk, ghanto is discriminatory in his / her posts and so are you. Why should Crosshill students be stigmatised? Why should that be allowed to continue? Before you spout your thoughts, try and get your facts straight.......

Goodness what a lot of ignorant people have commented on this! The school was built so that pupils with educational and special needs and pupils with no educational or special needs can be integrated in society without anybody being able to call them out on being different. Basically teaching all children that IGNORANCE is NOT ACCEPTABLE. It is not acceptable for children with educational needs to be singled out as 'mental' or 'unruly' nor is it acceptable to class children with no educational needs as 'normal'. They are children, they are human and each one is unique, be it that one may need help controlling ADHD or be it that another may be an A* student. People on here haven't seemed to realise this because of their own IGNORANCE. Ghanto if you have pulled your children out of this school because they were ashamed to be associated with Crosshill then shame on you. My question to you is why should pupils at Crosshill want to wear the same uniform as your ignorant children? They are what you teach them. Adamdesk, surely all children wearing the same uniform makes them all feel like not one child is better than another? By Crosshill pupils wearing a different uniform do you not think they would be upset at being singled out from other children just because they have a learning difficulty? They are still children for crying out loud! You would not even be able to tell that some of the students at Crosshill have any learning difficulties unless they told you. Same for some of the pupils who attend Central High School, you may think with their behaviour that they were in fact attending Crosshill when they are being disruptive in a classroom. The whole 50 comments above were ridiculous. This is a school. It has pupils who attend it. Whether those pupils are black, white, mixed race, have ADHD, are A* students, are dislexic or anything else society likes to label, they are all CHILDREN. NOT ONE SHOULD BE TREATED DIFFERENTLY. I pity ignorant folk, I really do.....

However the children cannot be discriminated or neglected

We cannot force a pupil with learning difficulties to learn to cross the road some learn some takes time

Different uinform can alert police, teachers and others of special needs and they can be helped where necessary

These idiots above like ladysal etc wants to comment and make a stupid issue and bang their head against the wall becuase they need treatment

people with special needs play openly as they are already mix with other children go out but unfortunately they have to be looked after and different uniform or logos wouldve helped

There is nothing embarrassed about it they are normal humans who takes time to learn

so keep your mouth shut and so back to brockhall school or tell you mum or dad to teach you how to respect
Children with learning difficulties are not classified as 'mentally disabled or require extra attention to live their normal life's. Instead they are classified as 'learning difficulties' because they require extra help and attention when being taught in class. This may be because they are not as brilliant as other children we expect and requires extra time to learn simple tasks. Where normal children would tackle simple subjects with ease, others would take longer and these are the children that are known as 'children with learning difficulties'.
I am aware Crosshill did teach these children and still does, but because they have now linked up with other schools to become a super school, the name Crosshill is not welcomed by certain parents, thus the objection. This may be because within friends and families this may be an embarrasment and discomfort.

I am a man of discipline. One insulting word and I will come out with a mouthfull!
