A WOMAN has been left shaken after a car was deliberately driven at her at speed in Accrington.

The 26-year-old victim from Blackburn was walking along Hyndburn Road on Thursday when a red Daewoo Matiz, is believed to have driven deliberately towards the woman before stopping just short of colliding with her.

Officers investigating are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Police are particularly keen to speak to two women who they believe may have seen the incident before giving the woman a lift away from the area.

The incident happened around 6pm, police said.

PC Andy Banks of Accrington Police said, “It would appear that this was a deliberate act and I would urge anyone with any information that they think could help to contact us as soon as possible.

“There are two women who we believed stopped and gave this lady a lift – they were in a black, new shaped Vauxhall Astra car and I am extremely keen to speak to these ladies who could be key witnesses, so I would urge them to get in touch if they read or hear this appeal.”

A 47-year-old man from Blackburn has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail until August 23.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 and quoting log number LC-20120808-1286.
