EIGHT free guided treks are being made available this year as part of Pendle’s annual walking festival.
Thousands are expected to descend on the borough for the ninth such event, which will include a hike to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Pendle Witch trials.
Mayor of Pendle Coun Asjad Mahmood will launch the festival on Saturday, September 1, at the Aisled Barn in Wycoller, with six walks of varying difficulty on offer.
The walks being promoted range from straightforward treks of two miles to more challenging expeditions, such as the four-day long assault of the Pendle Way.
Coun Paul White, the borough council’s tourism spokesman, said: “Over the last nine years the Pendle Walking Festival has gone from strength to strength.”
Free programmes are being published online for the walking festival at www.visitpendle.com
