A SERIES of recommendations have been agreed between councillors and health bosses on ways forward for Pendle Community Hospital.

Campaigners were concerned that the removal of rehabilitation beds could spell the end for the centre in Leeds Road, Nelson, but NHS chiefs have insisted the community hospital has a future.

Now a borough council scrutiny panel has reported back with a number of key findings, which they believe will promote the site.

And NHS East Lancs and Pendle Clinical Commissioning Group, which will take over services, have accepted reviews should be conducted in a number of areas, including the provision of more out-patient clinics.

The perceived ‘under-use’ of the x-ray department will also be examined, as will concerns about the nutritional value of meals served.

A transport review, amid concerns about the hospital shuttle bus not serving the hospital, is also scheduled.
