TOWNS across East Lancashire are looking blooming beautiful ahead of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Begonias will be helping to brighten up Chorley town centre with a red, white and blue colour scheme and in Blackburn and Darwen red, white and blue flowers have also been planted.

The bunting, flags and street decorations in the centre of the town, put up by Burnley Council to mark the Queen’s visit earlier this month, will also stay up over the Jubilee weekend.

Pendle Council are planting a Union Jack-style flower bed outside Brierfrield Town Hall and have given groups grants towards Jubilee celebrations.

Hynburn Council has in-corporated patriotic colours into this year’s planting and will be putting up bunting and flags in the various wards.

Colne In Bloom has planted hanging baskets and troughs with a red, white and blue theme, and in Ribchester the flags will be flying and bunting will be put up around the village.

Chorley Council supplied compost and five planters at the top of Market Street, which were planted with begonias and euornymus by volunteers from the Chorley and District Gardening Society.

In Blackburn with Darwen, the flower beds on banking opposite Boots the Chemist in Darwen and Town Hall Square will brighten up the area.

A crown centre piece saying ‘Elizabeth II 1952-2012’ has also been planted in Corporation Park near the war memorial.

The floral displays have been planted ahead of the numerous street parties and celebratory events.

Rossendale Council has chosen to plant their flower beds with an Olympic theme this year, and has decorated both Rawtenstall and Bacup markets with bunting ahead of the Queen’s Jubilee.
